A Night of ReflectionAll are Welcome!!!
6pm MTZoom Meeting Registration Required

“I do not pretend to understand the moral universe; the arc is a long one, my eye reaches but little ways; I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. And from what I see I am sure it bends toward justice.”

Rev Theodore Parker, Ten Sermons on Religion (1853) ‘Justice and the conscience’

Dear Beloveds,

As we process the results of this election, ALL are invited to join us for a gathering where we can reflect on what the outcomes mean for us, our work, and the future we envision. Whether you are feeling hopeful, disappointed, fearful, or uncertain, this time together is an opportunity for us to come together, share perspectives, and discuss the way forward.

Host: The Mountain Top UU / UUs for Racial Justice
When: 5:00pm PT / 6:00pm MT / 7:00pm CT / 8:00pm ET
Location: Zoom Meeting (Registration Required)

Last night was a deeply upsetting experience for us, especially since we are heavily invested in each other and justice that involves all of us. This was a major setback! As we struggle for racial, economic, environmental, reproductive, and gender justice, it can feel as though the country, or at least a significant portion of it, is moving in the opposite direction.

It is heartbreaking to watch as candidates who represent regressive policies—those that exacerbate inequality, attack marginalized communities, or undermine vital rights—win.

In moments like this, we recognize that many feel disillusioned with our families, our communities, the system, and by extension, our country. It is not just about the specific candidates or policies voted on, but about the broader social climate that allowed these views to gain traction in the first place. You might feel that despite your years of activism, marches, and calls for action, a significant portion of the electorate still does not understand, or worse, does not care about us as BIPOC, Immigrant, Queer (LGBTQ+), AFAB (individuals who were assigned female at birth), and the deep structural injustices that continue to hurt so many.

For many, the sadness is not just about personal disappointment—it is about watching as the struggle for inclusion and justice feels further out of reach. Election results are a powerful reminder of just how much work is left to do, especially when policies aimed at immigrant rights, criminal justice reform, healthcare for all, environmental protection, and equal rights for all people seem to have little support at the highest levels. In times like these, it can feel like the scales of justice have tipped, and the stories of those who have been historically marginalized are once again erased.

While in the depths of this disappointment, our ministry and work must continue. Last night brought about a deep anguish, but it is also a reminder of the urgent need to keep pushing forward. The moral arc toward justice is long, and while election outcomes can shape the terrain, they don’t define us or our future. Organizing, educating, and advocating for change does not stop after the ballots are counted.

We hope to see you tonight. Again, this invitation is open to ALL, and we will also offer breakout rooms for BIPOC, Queer, and marginalized groups for discussion.

If you are not able to make it tonight or at any time in need of support, please reach out to our chaplains at 720-336-0910 x4 or chaplains@themountaintopuu.org.

With a heavy heart,
